Levels of Consciousness

  • Creative: authentic, adaptable, hope-giving

  • Controlling: image-driven, attention hungry, chameleonic

  • Destructive: plagiarizing, sabotaging, prostituting

Shock point fear (the fear that causes the slip from Creative to Controlling consciousness)

I’m falling behind others and will be overshadowed

Examples of shock point fears

  • My friend was just asked to speak at a leadership conference

  • My classmate got 100% on the final exam and I only got 99% which means I won’t be getting into Harvard and will have to settle on Yale

  • My dad clapped for my sister more than me when we were sharing our achievements

  • Someone did an excellent job writing a book I wish I’d written even though I’m not a writer

Why I get provoked I feel like I’m not competent enough to get the job done, I can’t steer people toward the goal, others are getting ahead of me, I don’t have it all together, or I’m failing in any aspect of life either you or I value (because what you value is what I value until there’s something more important)

How I cope with shame I become The Achievement Machine. I get things done like no one else, constantly pushing forward, seeking acclaim, connecting with the bigwigs, and showing what I can do, all to make you see that I’m actually the best – at life – but I’m also so generous that I’m ready to tell how you can follow in my footsteps too (just a little bit behind me)

My Emotions slow me down so I conveniently live without them as much as I like

How was your day, Type 3?

“Awesome, got a lot done!”

Behavioral pattern Go Getter. I’m super-driven and dynamic out in the world, but I can’t get off the treadmill

Type 3 with 2 Wing I’m hyper-efficient and dazzle others with my charms as I chase after big dreams and spread myself incredibly thin, rarely thinking to check in with myself about who I really am

Type 3 with 4 Wing I’m cool and collected, full of creative ideas and the capacity to execute on them, but I’m most concerned that you see me as the unique one who has it all together as I try to live a fantasy instead of being me

A Personal Meditation for Growth I don’t need to be someone important but can be who I am, for myself
