Why we think Hilary Clinton is a Type 3

  • Perceived inauthenticity. “All through her public life, Clinton has been hobbled by the label ‘inauthentic.’ Her changing hairstyles, her choice of baseball teams, her circle-the-wagons approach to the press—they’ve all felt, to the public, like symptoms of the lack of a core” (Politico.com).

  • Regional accents. Clinton has been known to adopt regional accents when speaking to different audiences. For instance, she has occasionally adopted a southern drawl when speaking in the South, even though her natural accent is Midwestern.

  • Wall Street speeches. Clinton faced criticism for her paid speeches to Wall Street firms after her tenure as Secretary of State. Critics argued that these speeches indicated a close relationship with the financial industry and questioned her commitment to economic reform. This could be indicative of Hilary being drawn to prestigious or lucrative opportunities, even if they conflict with her stated values or goals.

  • Demeanor. Hilary’s demeanor is poised, confident, and professional. As a former First Lady, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State, and presidential candidate, she has been in the public eye for decades and has developed a strong and commanding presence.

  • Political position shifts. Throughout her career, Clinton has been accused of changing her stances on various issues to appeal to different constituents or adapt to changing political landscapes. For example, she initially supported the 1994 crime bill but later expressed regret over its impact on mass incarceration, and she reversed her position on same-sex marriage, supporting it after previously being against it. This speaks to the chameleonic tendencies of the Type 3.

  • Balancing multiple roles. Clinton's ability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities, such as being a mother, lawyer, First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State, speaks to her adaptability and efficiency.

  • Ambition and drive. Clinton has had a long and successful career in public service, showcasing her ambition and commitment to achieving her goals. She has held several high-ranking positions, such as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State, and has campaigned multiple times for President.

  • Email scandal. The controversy surrounding Clinton's use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State points to a tendency to cut corners or prioritizing efficiency over the established rules. This incident led to significant negative publicity and contributed to questions about her trustworthiness.

  • Focus on legacy. Clinton spent significant time and energy in her book as well as in other public forums disputing her role in incidents such as the Russian interference in the 2016 election and the email scandal.

  • Work ethic. Clinton has worked very hard throughout her career. For example, during her role as Secretary of State, she traveled extensively, visiting 112 countries and logging nearly a million miles.

  • Pop culture appearances. Clinton has made several appearances on popular television shows and participated in viral moments to reach broader audiences and show a more relatable side. Examples include her appearance on "Saturday Night Live," participating in the "Mannequin Challenge," and appearing on "Between Two Ferns" with Zach Galifianakis.
