Why we think Martin Sheen is a Type 3

  • Changing his name as a marketing strategy. Born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez, Martin Sheen changed his name early in his career to improve his chances of success in Hollywood. This decision shows a level of adaptability and a desire to create an image that would resonate with audiences.

  • Focus on financial success. In interviews, Sheen has shared openly about a desire to be a successful actor in order to make money. “"I did it for the dough...and it shows."

  • Work ethic and doing what it takes. Sheen didn't come from a privileged background. Growing up the seventh of ten children, he worked odd jobs, such as caddying and hauling golf bags, to help support his family and try to make it in the world.

  • Persistence. He moved to New York City at the age of 20 to pursue acting, despite having no connections in the industry. He auditioned repeatedly and faced rejections, but remained persistent and eventually secured roles in stage and television productions.

  • Dedication to his craft. His dedication was especially visible in the television show 'The West Wing,' where he played President Josiah Bartlet. He had a heavy workload throughout the series, appearing in most of the 154 episodes between 1999 and 2006. Despite health issues and personal struggles, Sheen remained committed to the show, frequently appearing for 14-hour shooting days.

  • Commitment to roles. In the filming of 'Apocalypse Now,' Sheen endured grueling conditions in the Philippines and even suffered a serious heart attack during production. Instead of dropping out, he returned to the set six weeks later and went on to complete his role in the now-iconic film.

  • Accomplished career. Sheen’s desire to succeed and strong work ethic has led him to have a successful acting career spanning over five decades, with numerous awards and nominations under his belt. He has received Golden Globe Awards, Emmy Award nominations, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

  • Demeanor. He has a strong, articulate speaking style that can convey a range of emotions from authoritative to compassionate. His warm and approachable demeanor tends to draw people in and capture their attention.

Martin Sheen quotes that show he is a Type 3

  • "It's important to be heroic, ambitious, productive, efficient, creative, and progressive, but these qualities don't necessarily nurture the soul. The soul is nurtured when you are being kind and courageous, humble, grateful, and generous."(which shows his becoming healthier as a 3w4).

  • "I've had a lot of battles, and it's been a great learning experience for me. I've learned that competition is often a way of getting you where you want to go."
