Why we think George W. Bush is a Type 6
Intense focus on preparedness. He hinged his presidency on the importance of being ready for potential threats and took a proactive approach to preparing for crises.
Using fear to mobilize preparedness. Bush's administration introduced a policy of preemptive strikes, arguing for a proactive approach in dealing with potential threats. The Bush doctrine, exemplified by the invasion of Iraq in 2003, aimed to prevent the emergence of perceived threats by acting preemptively rather than waiting for direct attacks. He used fear to mobilize people.
Suspicious. One of the most significant and memorable aspects of the Bush presidency was his choice to invade Iraq based on the claim that they possessed “weapons of mass destruction.”
Down-to-earth demeanor despite his power. Even though he would eventually ascend to the world’s most powerful position, Bush still came across as a regular guy. The way he spoke and the way people responded to him all point to his “average Joe” demeanor. During his presidency, he would spend time at his Crawford Ranch clearing brush, fixing fences, and engaging in other outdoor activities, which showed a love for manual labor and a connection with rural Americans.
George W. Bush quotes that show he is a Type 6
"I will not wait on events while dangers gather."
"My job is to protect America, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
"I have a duty to make sure our country is as safe as possible."
"You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." (demonstrates suspicion as a key motivator)
"I'm loyal to my friends and loyal to the people who work for me. And I expect the same loyalty back."
"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." (demonstrates an affinity for an authoritarian leadership style, which 6s may promote in order to manufacture a sense of security)
"I'm the commander. See, I don't need to explain. I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the president. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."
"I know I'm the President, but I'm still just a public servant, just a guy who has been given an honor to serve the country." (demonstrates a down-to-earth demeanor)
