How We Define Coaching at Upbuild

Serving as a human mirror to help you:

Personal vs. Professional

People often wonder, should I mix speaking about work with speaking about my personal life in our sessions? At the end of the day, you’re a human being, whether at work or at home. The same aspirations and insecurities drive us in different forms in our different environments. What we want to look at is more fundamental to who we are and how we show up. Therefore, all that you bring to the table, personally or from your work-life is relevant. Working on a challenge in the office often has great bearing on our personal relationships and vice versa. We welcome getting to know you holistically, and find that this integrated approach lends greater transformative power to the work.

The Ego and The Self

The deepest coaching focuses on the distinction between the ego and the self. We want to be able to recognize the ego so that we can be our true self. We define the ego as the identity of who we think we should be. We define the self as who we actually are deep down. Coaching can lead to this uncovering of who we are and living as we are.

What Happens in a Session

We provide a safe space for dynamic exploration, act as a mirror, share in struggles, bounce off ideas, help in prioritization, and lend our own insights, as we co-create a plan of action that we will hold you accountable to achieve. We utilize our own Upbuild content, the incisive Enneagram personality typology, our own personal experiences, practices of mindfulness, and other frameworks.

One of the most helpful aspects of coaching is to evaluate our habits and to build new ones that better serve us. If there’s something you want to be better at doing or there’s something you feel will help you grow personally, we’ll craft small goals to help you move in that direction and keep progressing. We will also help you to navigate conversations and relationships as you bring them into the discussion.

You can share or ask us anything that comes to you. Our time speaking is your space to process experiences together with someone deeply invested in you. We will make suggestions when we feel strongly that this will be a beneficial direction or approach

Each coaching session is 55 minutes long and will be used to discuss any immediate, pressing issues as well as the longer-term priorities. We’ll end each session with actionable steps and/or personal exercises to work on prior to the next session. Sessions are designed to build on each other to ensure forward movement and accountability.
The conversations will be free-flowing and meant to create a safe space for honest introspection.

“360s” are a valuable way to get solid feedback from your team, peers, and any other stakeholders within your organization. It helps you make course corrections in your leadership that support your growth and the growth of your organization. Our process culminates to help you identify viable action steps to address what’s going on in the organization.
