Upbuild Coaching Bits: Challenges

A challenge is a big request that is meant to “take the person’s breath away.” It is not just about getting the person to do more. It is about opening up possibility—to get them to see that more is possible than they can imagine. A challenge sends the signal that you believe in them and know they can expand the scope of what is possible for them.

Examples of challenges:

  • I challenge you to reach out to 100 people by the end of this week to let them know that you are interested in taking on more clients.

  • Will you attempt to be of service in some way to every member of your team this week?

  • Would you be willing to complete the entire project this weekend?

Coaching application: In at least one coaching session this week, make a big request that has the potential to take your client’s breath away and shift what they believe is possible.

Life application: What is something you’re working on that you could expand or elevate significantly to create even greater impact?
