Why we think Mahatma Gandhi is a Type 1

  • Commitment to principles. Gandhi was deeply committed to his principles, particularly non-violence, and was willing to endure great personal sacrifice to uphold them. 

  • Strong sense of justice and fairness. Gandhi was famous for his peaceful protests and civil disobedience movements, which aimed to end discrimination and achieve justice for all people. He was a vocal critic of the caste system in India and fought for the rights of marginalized groups.

  • Self-discipline. Gandhi's commitment to non-violence and his strict adherence to his principles demonstrate his willpower and discipline. He also was very disciplined when it came to his diet, daily routine, and spiritual practices.

  • Personal integrity. Gandhi was known for his personal integrity. "My life is my message."

  • Idealism. Gandhi's vision of a free and independent India was a driving force behind his activism and leadership.

  • Perfectionism. Gandhi was known for his high standards of himself and others and his unwavering commitment to his values.

  • Attention to detail. Gandhi's attention to detail is evident in his meticulous record-keeping and his careful planning of protests and campaigns. 

  • Treatment of his family. Gandhi's relationship with his wife and children was complicated, and he often held them to high standards. His biographers have described instances where he was critical of his wife's cooking or parenting skills.

  • Sense of duty. Gandhi felt a strong sense of duty towards others and towards the causes he believed in.
