ORGANIZATIONAL WORKSHOPS

Leading Without Blind Spots

To work effectively in the turbulent context of an organization. If we don’t see our blind spots, we will still act on our insecurities, which increases the turbulence around us. When we understand ourselves deeply, we can ride the uncertainty, make the hard decisions, and have the difficult conversations thoughtfully and intentionally. Through the Enneagram personality framework, this workshop helps us better understand our insecurities, the resulting behaviors and how it affects our environment. It gives us tools to make us more aware of subconscious patterns of thought and the insights to start to free ourselves from our own egos, which is the only way to realize our full potential.

What Makes for Trust

Trust is the foundation of success for any team or organization. Trust makes it easier to make decisions and get stuff done, it leads to faster and more ambitious growth, and it cultivates a team climate characterized by deeper interpersonal relationships. Yet many of us have a binary and oversimplified view of trust (either I trust a person or I do not). The objective of our Trust workshop is to provide a framework to better understand the elements of trust, to use those elements to identify where trust gaps exist in key relationships, and to learn to talk about those trust gaps constructively so that trust is strengthened in the process.

Coaching Skills for Work and Life

Coaching is a crucial leadership skill for anyone who wants to serve others and bring out their best. Effective leaders apply coaching skills to engage and develop others without needing to “fix” them. Coaching helps us skillfully tap into the potential of ourselves and others by forming transformational relationships instead of transactional relationships.

In this one-day workshop, you will discover the coaching mindset and practice coaching skills to improve communication and relationships. Participants will learn how to influence and coach from a place of deep curiosity, respect, possibility, and collaboration. You will learn a coaching approach that helps people interrupt patterns of the ego that get in the way of living and leading more fully. The workshop will provide a common language and skill set for coaching that you can apply immediately to create dynamic relationships in personal and professional settings.

Living Your Values

The core values of an organization are the guiding principles that dictate behavior and action. Many organizations write up their core values, but the question is, do they actually live them? And what prevents them from doing so? This workshop leads organizations through a process of developing and reviewing each of their core values, making each value concrete and translating it into specific behaviors for people so that they can actually use it as a guide, and crystallizing how to measure the effectiveness of the values on an ongoing basis. The goal of this workshop is to make sure the organization's values are livable, and that the team actually understands what it means to live them.

Aligning Your Team

The purpose of this workshop is to facilitate improved communication, effectiveness and alignment across the team. It is structured to enable each member to openly communicate what he/she needs from each of the other people on the team in order to be more effective at his/her job. It creates a framework for more honest communication and allows feedback to be delivered in a way that's healthy and digestible. It sets a foundation for greater alignment and higher functioning across the team.

A Container for Coaching

It is now increasingly recognized that coaching is fundamental for managers to get the most out of their teams and to be the best leaders themselves. Training people in the skill of coaching imparts principles and practices that create greater clarity, meaning, and trust in relationships and teams. We, at Upbuild, have distilled our own experience as coaches into this workshop. We personally find that to work on our own selves with these principles and practices makes for one of the most fulfilling experiences we know. In this workshop, we teach the skill of coaching the way we view it – serving as a human mirror to help a person: examine what they’re experiencing and see their life and their self with lucidity, surface the underlying motivations and insecurities that are affecting their choices, concretize their goals and challenges, and be accountable.

Visioning: Creating the Blueprint for your Team

We all know that companies require a vision and a mission. However, successful vision-casting that reaches its carriers on an emotional level and sticks with them as a force of inspiration is hard-fought and hard-won. Moreover, for an individual to be able to plug into a concrete, overarching vision and mission of a company adds several layers of effectiveness and efficiency to the equation. We facilitate an interactive, vision-casting process that will lead not only to concrete and inspiring statements but also to the motivation of each individual to sustainably manifest them.

Harnessing Inherent Leadership

The emotional weight a leader must carry is tremendous. To be relied upon by diverse individuals means the leader must know and trust him or herself profoundly. For that caliber of knowledge and trust in oneself, honest self-reflection and personal development work is critical. This workshop is designed to help individuals understand their inherent leadership style, sharpen their inherent leadership skills, and develop the emotional bandwidth to carry the weight of a diverse, high-performing team.

Communicating Across Barriers

Effective communication is the fulcrum of a highly functioning organization or team. What underlies effective communication is intentionality, clarity, and the ability to meet others precisely where they’re at. In reality, even the best communicators can misunderstand and are often misunderstood because of fundamentally different communication styles. The result is inefficiency due to confusion, frustration, and diminished morale. This workshop empowers people to understand nine distinct styles of communication and proactively bridge communication gaps for highly consistent and inspired forward movement.

The Humane Feedback System

It is so painful to give feedback because we are afraid that it will make someone feel bad, make us look bad, or fall on deaf ears and amount to a waste of much needed time and energy. Nothing is more draining than giving feedback…except one thing – not giving feedback. This workshop teaches a 7-step process to giving feedback that offers hope and inspiration to the giver and the recipient by incorporating a few basic human principles, which apply as much to a company as to a personal relationship. The workshop focuses on providing feedback in complex/difficult situations.

The Inner World of the Introvert

We introverts are aware of our withdrawnness, and we may be aware of its effects on ourselves and others. What we are typically not aware of, is the nature of where these qualities come from. In this workshop, we’ll look at three causes behind why we may be showing up as introverted in order to own our needs and harness our nature, so we can become truly conscious and act with the greater self-understanding, acceptance, and intentionality.

The Controlling Tendencies of our Egos

Even the most self-aware among us experience life largely through the lens of our ego, which we define as an identity of who we think we should be, rather than who we truly are. Our lives are characterized by conscious or unconscious neediness where we put ourselves first and employ all our unique, habitual strategies to make the world tell us what we want it to tell us, even if it is often to the detriment of ourselves and others. During this program, through facilitated discussions and interactions with other program participants, you will have a chance to explore more deeply your own controlling behaviors and see the impact of them on yourself and others in your life. As we completely and consistently own our actions and thought processes irrespective of other peoples’ actions, then we will see our base level of consciousness rise.

Excavating Your Ego

Our purpose at Upbuild is to help people realize their full potential. To do this, we must start by understanding ourselves completely – our underlying motivations, our fears, our aspirations, why we get triggered when we do, and how we can overcome whatever might be holding us back from achieving our goals.

In this 2-day immersive Enneagram workshop, we will help you leverage your strengths and manage the pitfalls of your specific ego type, navigate natural tensions with your colleagues, and shape a culture in which your team feels inspired to work.

Working with Your Inner Critic

Are you aware of the voice in your mind that consistently puts you down and pressures you to be more than you are? In this Level 2 Enneagram workshop, we come face-to-face with the voice of our Inner Critic to understand how our anger, shame, and fear have such a strong hold on our lives, and how to overcome the voice of our Inner Critic.

This Level 2 Enneagram workshop builds on Excavating Your Ego. Participants gain deeper insight into the framework of the Enneagram, including the instincts and the directions of growth and stress. They also access tools to discriminate the voice of the conscience from the voice of the inner critic.

Focus

We rely on our minds more than anything else for our well-being. Even in the worst of situations, the mind can help us to see the benefit. But when the mind is at its default setting, it takes us for a ride. We become captive to its incessant barrage of thoughts, emotions, and desires. It becomes extremely difficult to be who we are and live up to our potential if our very interface with the world and ourselves is out of control. But there is one absolutely vital practice that sustains us at Upbuild and which is scientifically proven to enhance our mental and physical well-being. That is meditation. This workshop will offer participants: Clarity on the immeasurable benefits of a regular meditation practice, concrete understanding and experience of three distinct types of meditation, and a simple framework and motivation to build a strong personal meditation practice.

  • “What Vipin and Hari at Upbuild have added to our students’ experience is real. Through a series of training workshops for our leadership coaches and an inspiring keynote to the entire first-year class, what they have given us has helped us to inspire, to model vulnerability, to speak the truth, and to articulate the reasons why it is valuable to do the hard work. Upbuild’s work with us has enabled us to be catalysts in making our student leaders more of who they want to be – authentic, good listeners, compassionate leaders, empathetic managers, and leaders who go beyond smart to inspire others.”

    – JULIE B. LANG, CLINICAL PROFESSOR OF MANAGEMENT, TUCK SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AT DARTMOUTH

  • “I’ve attended more than a dozen team retreats and the Upbuild Visioning offsite really stood out for its simple, profound approach and practical, tangible outcomes – not to mention the exceptional facilitation style, which was both motivating and calming.”

    – PAUL TOWNE, SR. DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS & ALLIANCES AT CARE USA

  • “We are being asked more and more frequently to forget that we and those with whom we work are human. This is one of the reasons the work of Upbuild is so essential. It has given me a new language with which I can describe how I experience the world. It has helped me to feel connected to a tribe of people who experience the world in a similar way and who have many of the same struggles. It has also helped me increase my appreciation for the value that each different lens brings to the world. I had an amazing experience with Upbuild and I would recommend it to anyone.”
